ABOUT VRITTA

What is Vritta?

Vritta makes considered objects for the home — designed in India, made to order, one at a time. We launched with herb planters. New categories are in the studio. The sensibility stays the same.

What are Vritta objects made of?

Vritta objects are made from a plant-based bioresin — a renewable, plant-derived material made from the fermented starch of corn and sugarcane. It is non-toxic, dimensionally precise, and finishes with the warmth of stoneware and a surface resolved by hand.

The material is industrially compostable at end of life, which means a piece that one day reaches the end of its usefulness can be returned to the earth rather than to a landfill — provided it is processed at an industrial composting facility.

How is each piece made?

Each piece is built up in single, continuous layers from a digital model — a process closer to slow casting than to traditional moulding. There is no inventory waiting on a shelf. Each object begins after you place your order, takes shape in the studio, and is finished by hand before it is packed.

This is what "made to order" means at Vritta. Not a marketing phrase — a method.

Will my piece look exactly like the photographs?

Very nearly, yes — but not identically. Each Vritta piece is finished by hand. There may be a slight variation in the surface texture, a subtle difference in the way the finish catches light, or a soft shift in tone between batches. These are not flaws. They are the signature of an object made one at a time. We photograph our pieces in natural light and present them honestly. What you receive will feel of the same family, but it will be its own piece.

WORKING WITH VRITTA

Can I order a custom colour?

Not yet. Each design ships in its set finishes for now. Custom colour is something we are weighing rather than offering — and the enquiries that come in help us decide what is possible. If you have a colour in mind, write to studio@vrittadesign.in. We are listening.

Do you work on bulk or corporate orders?

Yes. For orders of ten pieces or more, write to studio@vrittadesign.in with your requirement and timeline. We work with offices, hospitality groups, and gifting partners on considered, batch-made commissions. Orders above twenty pieces need additional production time.

Do you offer custom or bespoke commissions?

Not yet, but it is something we are working towards. If you have a specific commission in mind — a private home, a particular dimension, a one-off piece — please write to us at studio@vrittadesign.in. We are not able to take on every request at this stage, but we are listening, and your note helps shape what we offer next.

ORDERING

How long does it take to receive my order?

Each piece is made to order and ships within 7–10 working days of your order being placed. You will receive a tracking link by email once your order has been dispatched. Delivery time after dispatch depends on your location within India and is typically 2–5 working days.

Can I order more than one design at a time?

Yes. Each design is a separate product. Add whichever designs and finishes you would like to your cart, and they will ship together as a single order.

Can I cancel or change my order?

Cancellations and changes can be accommodated within 12 hours of placing your order. After this window, production has begun and the order cannot be cancelled. Write to studio@vrittadesign.in as soon as possible with your order number.

PRODUCT CARE & USE

How do I care for my Vritta piece?

Wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth. For a deeper clean, a slightly damp cloth with a small amount of mild soap is fine — dry the piece immediately afterwards. Do not submerge the piece in water for prolonged periods. Avoid abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, and harsh chemical solvents. The finish is durable, but it rewards gentle handling.

Do the planters have drainage holes?

It is part of each piece's design, built in when it is made — there is nothing to select. Meru and Triveni are made with drainage: a hole at the base and a tray to catch overflow. Torii is made without drainage — a sealed form, suited to a plant liner or inner pot.

Can I plant directly in the planter?

In Meru and Triveni, yes. Add a thin layer of small stones or expanded clay at the base, soil above, and your plant in. The tray catches overflow water — empty it after watering, and do not let the planter sit in standing water.

Torii is made without drainage. We recommend a plant liner or inner pot, which protects the form from prolonged moisture contact and makes it easier to swap plants over time.

Can I use the planter outdoors?

The pieces are designed for indoor use — a kitchen sill, a desk, a bedside, a console. Brief outdoor exposure is fine, such as a covered balcony with morning light. We do not recommend extended exposure to direct sunlight, monsoon rain, or heat above 50°C. Sustained outdoor exposure may cause the finish to shift over time.

What plants work best in these planters?

Herbs, succulents, and small indoor plants are the natural fit. Basil, mint, tulsi, thyme, and curry leaf all do well in the sized planters. For non-edible options, small succulents, jade plants, and pothos cuttings suit these planters well. Avoid plants with very large root systems — these planters are sized for kitchen, desk, and shelf use.

Will the colour change over time?

Under normal indoor use, the colour stays true for years. Prolonged direct sunlight may, over a long period, soften the depth of the finish slightly — particularly with darker tones. This is true of most coloured objects in a home and is not unique to Vritta. Place your piece where it lives well, and it will hold.

SHIPPING & DELIVERY

Where do you ship?

We currently ship within India only. International shipping is being explored and will be announced when available.

How is my order packaged?

Each piece is wrapped in tissue, cushioned in shaped packaging, and shipped in a recyclable outer box. We use no single-use plastics in our packaging. The package opens to read as a deliberate object in itself — not as a delivery to be discarded.

Can you ship to a different address than my billing address?

Yes. At checkout, enter the shipping address separately. This is useful for sending Vritta as a gift.

What if my order arrives damaged?

Write to studio@vrittadesign.in within 48 hours of delivery with your order number and a photograph of the damage. We will arrange a replacement at no additional cost. Each piece is inspected carefully before it ships, but if something does happen in transit, we will make it right.

AFTER YOUR ORDER

Do you accept returns or exchanges?

Because every Vritta piece is made to order, we do not accept returns or exchanges for change of mind. If a piece arrives damaged or defective, we will replace it at no cost. Please see our Shipping & Returns policy for full details.

Can I order replacement parts?

For multi-part designs — a planter and tray, or a set of pods — individual replacement parts can be ordered. Write to studio@vrittadesign.in with your original order number and the part you need. Replacements are made to order and ship within the same 7–10 working day window.

How do I track my order?

You will receive a tracking link by email once your order has been dispatched. Tracking updates are managed by our courier partner and may take up to 24 hours to reflect after dispatch.
